ICS-W/C Series Winter Chillers
Economizers / Fluid Coolers

Applications
- Provides winter time “free cooling” via dry-cooler unit operation
- Glycol is circulated through dry-cooler during cold ambient temperatures to provide cooling via outside air
- Allows mechanical chiller to shut down during winter months
- Provides Energy Reduction and Savings due to reduced system HP and Kw
- Example: 6 HP Winter Chiller system (pump and fans) provides the same cooling capacity as a 40 HP compressor and fans on mechanical chiller
- Winter Chiller energy savings payback is based on winter weather design, system glycol operating temperatures and hours of production

Winter Chiller Operation
- 100 % automatic operation – no manual controls or valves for operation
- System operation based on outdoor temperature and system glycol temperature
- Ambient temperature must be 10 degrees F below operating glycol temperature for Winter Chiller control to be enabled
- When outside air temp falls to set-point, the Winter Chiller becomes the primary cooling source allowing the mechanical chiller to shut down
- Winter Chiller remains the primary cooling source regulated by the ambient temperature and the system glycol temperatures
- When outside air temp rises above set-point, the mechanical chiller once again becomes the primary cooling source
- Should the Winter Chiller system fail to operate for any reason, the mechanical chiller will automatically start up to maintain cooling until the Winter Chiller is reset and once again back in operation
